Cheap Windows

If you are looking to remodel your home with the hope of saving some money this winter, then it might be a good idea to look into replacing your home's windows. If you have an older home you may very well have single pane windows. Single pane windows are significantly less energy efficient than double or triple pane windows. Not only does each pane add heat resistance, but the space between the window panes are filled with a gas (like argon) that also acts as an insulator to improve the energy efficiency even more. You can find double pane windows in all price ranges from very expensive wood windows to simple but effective cheap windows. If you already have double pane windows, then you will see a smaller improvement (if any) in your heat savings if you replace them with newer models.

Carpet Tiles - A new discovery for me!

I just came across floor carpet tiles and I think they look like a very cool product. They look like they are super easy to put together and they are essentially the same as a one piece carpet. Just as durable and soft like regular carpet.

You can make an area rug to match any size and shape. There are tons of cool colors and a variety of texture to fit any design goals. If you need some REALLY rugged tiles, you can even get some commercial carpet tiles. Lots of possibilities exists with floor tiles.

I think I am in love :-)

Basement Waterproofing

If you live in one of the many damp parts of the country, you've no
doubt noticed the harm that basement moisture can cause. Excess
dampness give your basement a dank feel, encourages the growth of
mold, and damages anything you have stored in there. If you have a
real problem with moisture, you might even experience periodic
flooding in heavy rain storms and such.

The solution to this problem is basement waterproofing. By
redirecting water away from your basement, and sealing any places
water can leak inside, you can greatly improve the moisture resistance
of your basement. However, doing this properly takes quite a bit of
work, so you might want to consider hiring a contractor to do the job
for you. If you choose to go the do it yourself route, just make sure
that you are as thorough as possible, since the tiniest leak can still
cause major problems. Best of luck in your quest to make your
basement moisture free.

Kitchen Cabinets

We are going to start with the kitchen due to the fact that your kitchen is one of the places that you spend most of your time and the fact that the return on investment that you get from home improvement projects is very high.

One of the places I look to first in the kitchen is the kitchen cabinets. Cabinets can look dated and worn out pretty quickly and they can be easily reconditioned without complete replacement. A complete replacement is certainly an option but this is likely the most expensive option and it may require professional help to do the installation.

A better option might be to paint the cabinets and update the hardware with new hinges and pulls and knobs. If the cabinets are a little worn with scratches, nicks and dings, think about making them look like vintage kitchen cabinets. You can extra stress marks to the faces and then paint them with an appropriate vintage color with matching vintage hardware.

Another option is to paint the base cabinets and then replace the cabinet doors and drawer faces. This cuts down on some of the work, costs a little more but can give you a dramatic new look to your kitchen cabinets. This option also allows you to stick with natural wood if that is the desired look you want to achieve.

Welcome to Home Improvement Projects

Welcome to my Home Improvement blog. My name is MaryMary and I love to make improvements to my home from simple decorating changes to large remodeling projects like kitchen and bathroom remodels. I have even performed my own garage door repair (not a project to try unless you know what you are doing and have helpers).

I hope to add articles for cool home improvement project ideas and resources. Please feel free to comment and add value with your own ideas and variations to the idea presented here.

I am partial to do it yourself home improvement projects but I might cover projects that are best left to the experts. Given my inclination to DIY projects, you can expect to see articles about painting and unique painting techniques.

Kitchens and bathrooms are both areas that provide a great return on your time and investments to I will also target those areas.

Again, please feel free to chime in with your own Home Improvement ideas and techniques!
